ABA Therapy
Behavior Analysis is the science of Behavior. Behavioral therapy utilizes the principles of Applied behavior analysis ( ABA ), systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree (Baer, Wolf & Risley, 1968/1987; Sulzer-Azaroff & Mayer, 1991). Specifically, ABA refers to a systematic approach to the assessment and evaluation of behavior, and the application of interventions that alter behavior.

Because autism is a severe disability, the goal of treatment is to promote the child's social and language development and minimize behaviors that interfere with the child's functioning and learning. Intensive, sustained special education programs and behavior therapy early in life can increase the ability of the child with autism to acquire language and can improve their ability to learn. Special education programs in highly structured environments help children acquire self-care, social, and job skills.

Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, Founder and Executive Director of The Center for Autism and Related Disorders, has dedicated over 25 years to the study and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Through her research, curriculum development and treatment implementation Dr. Granpeesheh helped demonstrate the effectiveness of intensive, early behavioral therapy.

At Thoughtful House Center for Children, we find that children offered a combination of educational and medical treatment, including behavioral therapy, are the most likely to recover.
