Asperger's syndrome was originally described by Hans Asperger in Austria in 1944. His original study received little attention in the English-language literature until recently. People with Asperger's Syndrome have deficits in social interaction and they often have unusual responses to the environment. Cognitive and communicative
development are within the normal or near-normal range in the first years of life, and verbal skills tend to be strong. Idiosyncratic interests are common. They are often highly unusual--the New York City subway system, the weather, or vacuum cleaner engines, for example. Asperger's syndrome overlaps with nonverbal learning disability (NLD).
At Thoughtful House we treat children with Asperger's syndrome with a combination of medical treatment and educational therapy.
Thoughtful House brings together world-renowned clinicians and researchers in a data-driven, results-focused environment designed to generate best-practice treatment models for children with Asperger's syndrome. By looking at all interventions (medical, educational, behavioral, and recreational), we can formulate a plan for the most effective treatment for each child.
