Thoughtful House scientists and physicians are at the cutting edge of a new understanding of the biological origins of Childhood Developmental Disorders. Austin is the hub of an existing collaborative research program involving over 35 scientists in academic institutions worldwide.
Most children with autism are completely normal in appearance, but spend their time engaged in puzzling and disturbing behaviors which are very different from those of normal children. They may stare at nothing for hours, have uncontrollable rages, show no interest in people (including their family) and pursue strange, repetitive activities with no apparent purpose, such as lining up their toys. They have been described as living in their own world. Some autistic people are remarkably gifted in certain areas such as music or mathematics. All need help.
At Thoughtful House Center for Children, our aim is to conduct the biomedical research necessary to recover all children from autism spectrum disorders.
