Michael Scott Allen, Psy.D., earned his Master’s degree and Doctorate of Psychology degree at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. His specialties include clinical child psychology, clinical/research-based assessment, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Allen completed a therapy practicum at the Emory Autism Center in Atlanta, Georgia as a family program therapist and school consultant. He completed his American Psychological Association-approved internship at The Help Group, a school-based program for children within the autism spectrum. There, Dr. Allen served as a child/family therapist, assessor, program developer, and practicum-student supervisor. Dr. Allen has worked with CARD since August 2006 on the assessment team, and with the research and development department. With CARD, he has served as an assessor, research project coordinator, diagnostician, and research team member. He is currently co-authoring a study on the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on the behaviors of children with autism. Dr. Allen’s assessment experience is extensive, with over 500 diagnostic and developmental evaluations for children of all ages. Referral sources have included schools, social service agencies, pediatricians, courts, and parents. In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Allen completed research-level training on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), and he has completed many of these widely respected assessments with CARD. Current projects include development of an assessment center/diagnostic clinic in Austin, Texas, research coordination, and co-authoring of a manual for autism therapy providers. Dr. Allen is a licensed psychologist in the state of California, and he is completing the required steps for licensure in the state of Texas.
