Nonverbal Learning Disability
Nonverbal Learning Disability (NLD) includes deficits in three primary areas; gross and/or fine motor impairment, visual/spatial/organizational deficits, and an impaired ability to comprehend nonverbal communication, such as body language and facial expression. This last deficit often leads to inappropriate social behavior. Because people with NLD often have excellent verbal skills, many are initially misdiagnosed with Asperger's syndrome.
NLD is probably the least-known of the autistic spectrum disorders, but we find at Thoughtful House that children with NLD respond very well to medical and educational intervention.
The mission of Thoughtful House is to fight for the recovery of children with developmental disorders through the unique combination of medical care, education, and research.
